Club Fitting and Testing

The Cluboratory

All Weather Club Testing and Fitting Center

The Cluboratory is where customers can select golf clubs that will help them become better players and enjoy the game even more. The process that takes place in The Cluboratory is two stages: a testing process and a club-fitting process.

The Testing Process. During the testing, we determine the model of club, that looks, feels, performs and is priced best for you. The testing involves hitting shots with different clubs and comparing the results. This takes place on our practice facility with a qualified club-fitter. Important to the testing is hitting enough test shots to see the full flight of the ball.

The Club-Fitting Process. This involves precisely fitting the club model you selected in the testing process to your size and golf swing. The club-fitting process identifies the correct shaft (length, composition, and flex), grip (size and composition), and, with irons, the critical relationship between the shaft and the club-head called the lie angle. The club specifications determined from the club-fitting are then forwarded to the custom club department of the clubmaker and the clubs are made. As an authorized club-fitting account for virtually all of the club-makers we represent, we have the fitting clubs and tools, delivery priority, and most importantly, the training to make sure your clubs fit properly and arrive quickly.

Club Fitting Considerations:

  1. This sounds great but expensive. Club-makers charge us the same for custom clubs or stock clubs. Therefore, the price of our custom clubs should be close if not the same as competitors stock clubs. Our staff will spend a fair amount of time helping customers testing and fitting clubs. A fee is incurred only if you do not do not purchase the clubs. If you purchase clubs, these fees in most cases, are completely refundable. Iron sets that can be custom ordered are from $350 and up. Miles of Golf stocks irons for $250 that can be fit only for shaft length.

  2. You're impatient. The club testing and fitting typically takes an hour or less and is both fun and informative. Delivery time varies with clubmakers and the time of the year. The shortest is one day delivery, and it rarely exceeds two weeks. The benefits of getting quality clubs made specifically for you can be extremely significant to how well they perform. Simply put, it's well worth the short wait.

  3. What if you're not the best player? Actually, better golfers probably can adapt to ill-fitting clubs better than do average golfers. Golf becomes easier for everyone with clubs adapted to you instead of you adapting to your clubs.

  4. Your long irons all go about the same distance. Part of club-fitting is selecting which clubs should be in your bag. Stock iron sets come in a standard configuration that may not fit your game. If this is the case, you are paying for clubs you should not be using. When ordering custom clubs, our club-fitters help you determine which clubs you should be carrying. You only pay for what you order.
